Sherwood Pines Visitors Centre

Sherwood Pines Visitors Centre hosts a variety of activities including Go Ape, Forest Segway, Nordic Walking, Orienteering and in the summer, open air live music events. There is also a bike park, cycle hire facilities, several adventure play areas for children of all ages and a cafe.

 

The Visitors Centre can be accessed on foot or by bike through the forest (approximately 2 miles from the lodge). The shortest and quickest route will also take you past a replica of the World War I trenches which was built to mark the centenary of the war.   For those preferring to travel by car, it is approximately a 10 minute drive from the lodge.

Just a 5 minute drive from the lodge, the Adrenalin Jungle boasts a wide range of outdoor activities for those aged between 8 and 80 including Airsoft, Archery, Assault Course, Blindfold Driving, Bubble Football, Jungle Combo, Laser Tag, Paintball, Quad Biking, 4×4 Off Road Driving. (Minimum ages do apply - some have a minimum age of 12).

Sherwood Forest Visitors Centre

The Major Oak

Sherwood Forest Visitors Centre is just a 15 minute drive from Loxley's Lodge and is home to the Major Oak. The ancient oak is believed to be between 800 & 1000 years old, is the largest in Britain and according to legend, was where Robin Hood and his Merry Men took shelter and slept. The centre also has a cafe and hosts various activities and events throughout the year. For further infomation , please visit their website (see below).

 

The visitor centre is open 10am – 5pm from March to October, and 10am – 4:30pm from November to the end of February.

Wheelgate All Action Theme Park & Waterpark is a 10 minute drive from Loxley's Lodge and offers a fantastic family day out.

Just a 10 minute drive from Loxley's Lodge, White Post Farm has both indoor and outdoor play areas, go-karts and also provides the opportunity to hold, stroke and/or feed some of the animals. The farm is open all year round from 10am, and is perfect for family days out.

Thoresby Park, Thoresby Hall & Day Spa

One of several stately homes in the area, Thoresby Hall was completed in 1871 and designed by architect Anthony Salvin. It's grounds include several acres of parkland and a Victorian Courtyard which accommodates a licensed cafe, an arts & craft gallery & a selection of other retail outlets.   

Thoresby Hall has two restaurants and a Day Spa all of which are available to visitors.

Rufford Abbey & Country Park

Rufford Abbey was founded as Cistercian monastery in the 12th century. It was acquired by Nottinghamshire County Council in 1957 & subsequently opened as a country park. Most of the original monastery buildings from the 400 year occupation by the “white monks” can still be seen whilst Lord Savile’s Kitchen, located  in the restored Victorian kitchen of the Abbey’s remaining Jacobean wing, offers home cooked lunches and traditional cream teas.  There is an adventure play area for children and the Abbey also hosts various events throughout the year.
